Hi mummies,

I hope you’re having a great summer till now. Things have been hectic here while running our crowdfunding Kickstarter campaign. Together with Faraxa Publishing and the artist Platon we’re raising the funds we need to create ‘Where am I from?‘, the world’s 1st graffiti illustrated book for children promoting unity and diversity.

It’s been quite a ride so far with two MAJOR highlights. Mr. David Muscat placed an order of 200 book copies of ‘Where am I from?’ on behalf of the National Literacy Agency of Malta. These books will be distributed to the public schools in Malta! Isn’t this amazing? I also got contacted by the Libraries Counsellor of the Vestfold Municipality of Norway who pre-ordered 20 books for their public libraries. She found me on Facebook after having read the following article in a Norwegian newspaper, and also invited me as a speaker at a cultural event this September related to integration. So much love and support poured over this book project, it warms my heart <3

Within 3 weeks since the launch of our campaign we ‘ve had press coverage in three countries, public institutions in two countries sponsoring us, and the support of YOU, 121 amazing people helping us bring this book to life. I feel all this comes as a proof that the book we are all creating together is a book that matters. We still have 4 days to go as our campaign expires on 15/08. Lets see what might come next!

Someone asked me the following:

‘Where am I from?’ is aimed at helping children who are multicultural, multiracial or living outside of their home country. What about other children… can they also benefit from reading this book? 

And this is my answer:

‘All children will benefit from this story. The book will spark their curiosity about different countries across the globe which is in itself a fantastic conversation opener. Secondly, all kids, native and multicultural, will appreciate the narrative and the message of the beauty in diversity. It will help promote for them the idea that, in the end, when it comes to the very basics, we’re all connected. It’s during early childhood that many of our attitudes and beliefs towards others are shaped, and we form a perception of the world around us. It is therefore at this young age we should start introducing these ideas if we want our kids to grow up and create a better world than we have done so far.‘

Last week we were featured in four big newspapers and several online magazines and websites with our book project ‘Where am I from?‘. I am humbled and honoured by the response of the media and how much they believe in what we wish to achieve. As I said to one of the journalists, ‘Where am I from?‘ celebrates the beauty of diversity while concluding that we are all inherently the same. Should we wish to raise a future generation that see themselves as citizens of the world, diverse and multicultural books are mandatory. I am also humbled by the support received from the parents who support our efforts and already pre-ordered the book.

Kindly note that the only way to reserve a copy for your own children is via Kickstarter here. We need to reach our funding goal by 15/08 in order to produce this book thus your support means everything. Faraxa Publishing in Malta is the exclusive publisher of ‘Where am I from?’, a book which is aiming to be the very 1st graffiti illustrated picture book for children in the world.

A few months ago the the lovely people behind My Nametags sent me an email asking if I would like to receive their stick-on or iron-on nametags without any obligation to review them. As we all know, this kind of products are a must, especially when the little ones start attending daycare, playschool, kindergarten, school, so I obviously sent a positive reply. I opted for stick-on nametags, as these are recommended for all-round use (the iron-on tags are recommended for clothes), and because I thought this would be fun for our eldest as a ‘do-together’ activity.

The order process is really simple and straight forward, you simply visit www.mynametags.com.mt, pick your type (iron on or sticker), choose your design and text and away you go. Each order comes with 56 labels, the iron stickers are best for clothes and the sticker ones are for all-round use, and the cost is € 16.95 per set of tags with FREE postage in Malta. The process itself is quick as was delivery. Within a few days they popped through the letter box.

Our oldest is 4 1/2 and at this point he loves stickers and he loves to see his name on his things. Erik was thrilled to see his name on label stickers which he could stick on his belongings. I must admit that we did struggle a bit to make him understand that these are for limited use, for items he takes with him at the kindergarten and outdoor activities, and that no, he could not label his toys, books and all sorts of other belongings of similar nature

I waited for two months before writing this review, as I wanted to put them first on the test. The most frequently used item is Erik’s water bottle which he takes at the kindergarten and which I often wash in the dishwasher. I am happy to state that even the water bottle label is still intaked. The Mynametags labels appear to be super durable and are probably the best in the market. We had a very positive experience till now. Nothing to complain about.

Overall verdict

If you are looking for some custom name tags, either for going back to school, or to get some peace of mind while you’re out and about, then I highly recommend the My Nametags stick-on labels.
