I am currently completing my studies as a Childbirth Educator and Postpartum Doula. As part of the certification requirements I need to teach a childbirth education course as well as assist a mother and her newborn from birth to 6 weeks of age.

The Childbirth Education Course will involve 4 lessons of 2 hours each and can be private or as a group of maximum 6 people. The parents do not need to be first time parents, but first-time parents are welcome. Fathers/partners are also very much encouraged to attend.

As a Postpartum Doula, my role is to assist the mother with learning basic baby-caring skills, assist with breastfeeding issues and refer to a lactation counsellor if there are problems, give the mother time to process her birth experience and talk about it, ensure the mother is taking adequate care of herself and so on. Certification requires that I assist the mother and baby for at least 1 hour a week for 6 weeks, but more hours can be added should the mother require additional assistance. A Postpartum Doula can also assist with transitioning older children into the new family dynamics.

As these are course requirements and part of my training, the above services are being offered free on a first-come, first-served basis.’
