23 days left till the -estimated- big debut!

So I am pregnant. Heavily pregnant in fact. My due date is the 29th of July and every day now is bringing me closer to the moment that I am going to hold our son, Erik, in my arms. Some period like cramps and pains have already started so it shouldn’t take long till we need to rush at Mater Dei. Though ‘long’ is a relative term and in this case it can take anything from a few days to a few more weeks.
The days also feel quite long now and I am freaking out a bit seeing how many extra kilos I am gaining during the last weeks. I only gained around 6kg during the first 2 semesters and now I am at +17kg since the day I found out that I was pregnant! Especially the last month has been crazy. The baby is growing quite fast and I can feel and see that my body is changing big time. I am entering the 37th week on Monday and I truly hope that he will pop-out before the end of the ‘norm’ of 40 weeks. I am almost certain that if our baby boy wishes to wait longer, someone will need to roll me like a barrel whenever I need to go out cause I don’t think I will be able to move anymore!

My feet are constantly swollen and I have to wear my husbands flip-flops (my normal size is 37 and his 41…!) when I go out. The summer heat doesn’t help and and at times it is painful and difficult to walk around. I never thought that I would one day wobble like a duck. But now I feel closer to a duckling nature than my human one. Could be because I am ‘nesting’ too 🙂
Everything is more or less ready at home to welcome Erik although I am still not sure whether he should sleep right next to us in his moses basket or with us in bed. Sooo many questions in my head which are hard to answer before we get to see him for the first time. I believe that somehow he will guide us towards what he wants and what is best for him. I guess it’s never easy to become a mum for the first time and it’s normal to feel kinda lost.

I remember when we were kids and we assumed that our parents were something like gods. People who knew, or were supposed to know, everything! Now I get to realize that in an ideal worlds babies should be born with a manual, like anything new that gets delivered to us for the first time. Since we don’t live in an ideal world, they don’t come to us with a manual and as parents we need to learn everything from scratch and question every piece of advice we get. I do hope though that our parental instincts will kick-in shortly after birth and that all these questions will be more or less answered automatically (wishful thinking?) by that time. Roy, my husband, seems pretty relaxed so far and in control of the situation. Is it a female thing to be constantly worried about all ‘this and that’?

Here comes a picture of the happy-parents-to-be + baby!

  1. Lovely blog, Lisa! I enjoyed reading it.
My size of shoes went from 36 (even 35, 5) went up to 37 (in some shops 38)

  2. I'm glad you like it so far 🙂 Did you have swollen feet during both pregnancies? For the time being I didn't have to buy new shoes. I walk bare foot at home and use a pair of Roy's flip-flops and his Crocs when I go out. I find the Crocs extremely comfortable for big swollen feet!

  3. yes, my feet were swallen + they changed the size. so now my feet wider than normal and a bit longer. i have to buy 37-38 size(((( i had really tiny feet before

  4. Seriously…? I didn’t know that these changes might be permanent!
